Cure Reissues "The Trinity"

Ahh, this is what I've been waiting for!
The Three Imaginary Boys Reissue was nice (the extras were hit or miss), but Seventeen Seconds and Pornography were really the albums that made me love The Cure.

Sorry for the long post, but I think a couple of people on the blog will be interested in the full details. C'mon April...

Sky Blue opens today (ATL)

I posted about this movie a while back and wanted to remind people (and myself) that Sky Blue opens today. The review is mediocre, but so are my expectations when it comes to anime!

Music Review: Prefuse 73- Vocal Studies and Uprock Narratives

Well, it's not a new album by any means, but I finally got my ears around Scott Herron's first LP. I know I'm the last guy on this blog to embrace Herron's unique blend of cut-up vocals, skidish beats and atmospheric tones, but I thought I'd give everyone a chance to say "Told you so!"
While I will agree that Herron's unique, even masterful, approach to slicing and dicing the vocal tracks is his signature sound (listen and be mesmerized by "Life/Death"), I find myself more intrigued by his textured synth/key tones on most of his tracks, but especially "untitled".
"Last Light" leads you down that long hallway, full of dry ice and smoke, illuminated only by the sporatic strobing of blue light at the end of the tunnel. "Radio Attack" hits and your bouncing on the dancefloor with everyone else.

This album is the sound of a journey to a place cooler than you.

Food Stories

Warren Ellis, the patron saint of comics for this blog, writes alot. Most of it goes out into the great wide internet. Most of that goes to his website.
Occationally he will throw down a rant, and the link above will take you to his latest rant, and it is a doosy! Genetically Modified food is the subject, of all things. Be warned, not for the faint of heart...

Follow-up: Twilight Samurai DVD review

So if you remember my list of best films of 2004, you'll know how much I loved Twilight Samurai. Well, the DVD came out in December and it was definitely on my "To Buy" list until I read this DVD review.
C'mon guys, I know it didn't make any money over here, but the film deserves the royal treatment. Give it a good transfer or don't release it. Bummer...

Overflow: Decemberists- "Everything I Try To Do, Nothing Seems To Turn Out Right"

Song I Woke Up With In My Head.

Regardless of Colin Meloy's Smiths influence, his unique turn of phrase and rich folk-pop compositions make him one of the most original and fun songwriters around.
While the most wistful of the Mozzer's lyrics center around not have the one he can't have, "Everything I Try To Do..." takes the fresh perspective of the singer being in a relationship that he is bored by: "We turned off the tube and crawled to your room leaving discarded clothes in our wake and we both had some fun, though I twice bit my tongue, and it lasted too long for my taste."

Meloy's tenor voice along with a wonderfully textured slide guitar and organ make this more than just a b-side.
